Whether you are looking for a leisurely countryside stroll or a challenging multi-day trek, Scotland has something to suit every traveller. What’s best about Scotland is that you can take a walking holiday as well as book a city break to Edinburgh or Glasgow afterwards, so you get the best of both worlds. 

Switzerland 

You’ve probably heard a lot about Switzerland as it’s mentioned a lot as a place you should have on your bucket list. In the case of a walking holiday, it ticks a lot of boxes, and it won’t disappoint. In fact, it is a destination that looks like it has come straight from a postcard. Home to stunning mountain ranges, crystal-clear lakes and charming alpine villages, Switzerland offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in Europe. You can take it on as a beginner, or as an advanced hiker; there are plenty of hiking routes which will challenge you.

Spain 

Finally, Spain, another country that probably won’t come as a surprise when talking about the best places in Europe for a walking holiday. While many people associate Spain with beaches and different city breaks, it is also home to some fantastic walking routes that showcase a completely different side to the country.  

From rugged mountain trails and rolling countryside to stunning coastal paths, there is something to suit every type of walker. The country’s warm climate also makes it an excellent option if you’re looking for plenty of sunshine while exploring on foot. You also can’t forget to mention the Spanish cuisine, which is simply delicious.
